President’s Message – April 2015

a post by Brad Post

Let’s see, drives a red sports car (check). In his mid-50’s (check). Seen recently growing a ponytail (see adjacent picture – check). Slight paunch in the boiler area (check). Oh my gosh, it’s official!! Your President seems to be in full blown mid-life crisis mode! Who would ‘a thunk it.

With that now out in the open (whew!) we turn to recent and upcoming events at the SOS. A big shout out to the SOS Lady
Tennis Players who helped spruce up the tennis area and the back forty of the SOS Club for the recent tennis clinic which was put on by our tennis pro, George Collier, and which was open to the public. The Board is quite enthused about George’s efforts in reinvigorating the SOS Tennis Program. Please help spread the word about the SOS Tennis Program if you get the opportunity. Thanks again, ladies, for all of your time and effort. It is very much appreciated.

While we are on the topic of clean up, the third annual Love SOS Day has been set and will take place beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015. Our fearless leader, Mark “Hey, I’m the guy with the tractor” Driver, will once again spearhead this effort. Even if you only have a few hours to devote to this effort, that would be great. In addition, any ideas as to how you want to spruce up the SOS Club would also be welcome.

OAA Banquet Czar, Wayne Zipser informs us that the OAA Banquet date is about to be announced. On that date, the
press conference beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. Special thanks to Sam Sam-Sin for corralling exciting names for our guest speakers, which can take us back to the glory days of the OAA event. This event is sure to sell out so don’t procrastinate and get your tickets/tables through Shanale at (209) 578 – 5801 ASAP.

I know we all procrastinate (just ask former SOS Newsletter editor, Phil “Daily Planet” Feebeck, and current Newsletter editor, Clive “Jimmy Olson” Riddle, about how I turn in this Newsletter at the last minute of the last hour of the last day of the month) but if you are planning to attend an event, please sign up as early as possible to help us all out.

With the Masters Golf Tournament right around the corner, it is time to break out the clubs (and erasers for your score card) and sign up for the SOS Golf League. Bringing your favorite foot wedge is optional. The league kickoff party will be Wednesday, April 15, 2015, with play beginning in late April. You can get a signup sheet at the SOS bar or from League
Commissioner Scott “Hammer” Guptill.

Finally, don’t forget to bring the family to the Annual SOS Easter Brunch this Sunday, April 5, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you haven’t done so already, please make your reservations at the SOS Bar or call the Pro Shop at (209) 578-

Now, has anyone seen my gold chain necklace and Harley?

President’s Message – March 2015

a post by Brad Post

Brad has just left town on his annual fishing pilgrimage to Florida and left me with this message to write.  I guess I’m lucky he didn’t ask me to finish up his review of those contracts sitting on his desk.

Brad plans on catching something more than his right ear, as he did on last year’s trip (true story).  However, he guarantees me that if that happens again this year, he’ll submit himself as the “biggest catch” and at least bring home the money pot.  Famous last words from the “Great White Hunter.”

“El Presidente” (as he makes us refer to him around the house) wants me to mention that the SOS continues to have several great events in March ’15.

BEGRORAH!!! (ok I just like to say BEGRORAH).  Get your “Green On” for our St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, Friday, March 13.  No Host Bar: 6-8 p.m. – Dinner: 6-8 p.m.  ($16 Members, $18 Non-Members) And yes, Brad will be bringing “Lucky Charms” cereal for desert.  Sign up at the bar or call in for your reservations.

Silvermoon is making their first (of many, we hope) appearance at the SOS for a Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 28th at 6 p.m.  Bring your Groove On.  (Once again BIG KUDOS to Keith Fraser – The Dick Clark of the SOS).

Love SOS Day (III) will be held at the SOS on April 26th, beginning at 9 a.m.  If you have a pet project you want to see done, please let Brad know.

The annual SOS Owner Member meeting will be held at the Mellis Room on March 4th at 6 p.m.  Please bring any and all brilliant ideas that you have to help improve the club.  Brad adds that Checks are also always welcome.

The “Clive Riddle Look Alike Contest” had to be cancelled for obvious reasons.

That’s about all Brad wanted to pass on.  If you see Brad at the club (or “Sweating to the Oldies” on his elliptical machine) don’t bother to ask him how his trip went.  As he’s told me on several occasions, “What happens in Florida stays in Florida”. Whatever.

President’s Message – February 2015

a post by Brad Post

Well, I am waxing up my board (“is that what the kids are calling it these days?”) and heading out on vacation just as far as my SOS Presidential Expense Account will take me. That’s right, I am off to the ever sunny “Beaches of Bakers-field.” Geez, that expense account sure doesn’t go as far as it used to.

With Spring apparently already here (can you believe we have the same temperature as San Diego at the end of Janu-ary) we are happy to announce that the SOS has hired a new tennis coach. George Collier has been teaching tennis at various sites throughout the United States for over three decades. George stands ready, willing and able to assist you with your swing, serve, or to discuss the various nuances of the Australian Open (by the way, fellow Board Member Rich Fletcher will talk your ear off about the Australian Open so please don’t mention it if he’s within earshot). George will set up in the pro shop and will providing vari-ous tennis gear for purchase in the pro shop. Stop by and say hello to George when you get the chance.

Hopefully this message gets to you before Super Bowl XLIX (I think that means 49) kicks off. Please come join me in rooting against those fowl mouth, cocky, stinking, egg sucking Seahawks at the SOS Bar starting at Noon on February 1st. There will be burgers, dogs, salads (are you kidding me, salad at a Super Bowl???) a taco bar, teriyaki beef, plenty of adult beverages, and sodas for the kids.

Bring your sweetie, significant other, good friend, date, or just someone you pick up off the street, to our St. Valen-tine’s Day Dinner on Saturday, February 14th. Bar opens at 4 with the Sweetheart Dinner beginning at 7 p.m. Cost is $30 per Members; $35 per Non-Members.

This will be followed by the Pot of Gold St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner on March 13. Dinner is $18 for Members and $20 for Non-Members. Don’t forget to wear your green. Pinching is optional.

We have two upcoming events that will make you want to pull out your Dancing Shoes. On Saturday, March 28th the SOS welcomes back Silver Moon for a Buffet Dinner/Dance. The cost is a mere $40 per person. This event will be the Spring’s answer to Flying Blind, which is currently scheduled to return the SOS for a Dinner/Dance on June 27th. or those past SOS Presidents, the Past President’s Dinner is scheduled for February 11th at 6 p.m. in the Mellis Room. If you have not RSVP’d to me, please do at If you are planning to attend please let me know how you would like your meat prepared (insert joke here…exclude any reference to “Deflated Balls”).

We are also scheduled to hold an Owner/Member meeting on Tuesday, March 4th at 6 p.m. in the Mellis Room. Bring your ques-tions and hopefully we will have an answer or two.

We want to thank all those volunteers who cracked crab for the SOS’s extremely successful Crab Feed. The crab was delicious and we hit a record with the number of tickets sold. Special thanks to Mark Driver and Mike Eger for procuring the crab and naming each one before they went into the “Vat of Death”.

That seems like quite a bit for the upcoming month. Please make as many events as possible and, as al-ways, if you have an idea for an event which we can plug into this Spring, Summer or Fall please don’t hesitate to let me know. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you around the club.
